What’s a shipping surcharge and does it affect me?

Published: 05/02/2026

A shipping surcharge is a temporary price increase applied by delivery carriers to manage the significant increase in volume during peak seasons. To maintain high service levels as we scale up our network, these costs are passed through to the total shipping fee.

Peak Season Surcharge Details

For the upcoming peak period, a temporary surcharge will be applied to all orders shipped via Royal Mail. This helps account for the additional logistics and staffing required to ensure your orders arrive on time.

  • Effective Dates: 17 November 2025 until 12 January 2026 (inclusive).

  • Application: The surcharge is applied per item and will be included in the total shipping cost at checkout.

  • Taxation: VAT/tax is calculated based on the total sum of the product price, shipping cost, and the surcharge.

What should I do?

To protect your profit margins during the busy holiday season, we recommend the following:

  • Review Shipping Rates: Check the shipping prices on your eCommerce storefront (Etsy, Shopify, WooCommerce).

  • Adjust Pricing: Consider a small temporary increase in your shipping or product fees to cover these additional pence.

  • Communicate: If you choose to pass the cost on, you can simply update your shipping policy to reflect "Seasonal Carrier Adjustments."
